Myles Ellington Twitty

Myles Ellington Twitty is a trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and arranger from Cincinnati, Ohio. He began playing trumpet at the age of six after being introduced to it by his father, trombonist and music educator Terry Twitty. After years of playing in concert band, he heard Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" which opened his eyes and ears to a new world of musical possibility, pushing him to become the best trumpeter and musician he can be.

To date, Myles has been fortunate to perform and/or study with some of today's most prominent Jazz giants like Rodney Whitaker, Marcus Printup, Carla Cook, Camille Thurman, Bruce Harris, Walter Blanding, Kurt Elling, Marc Cary and others. He has also shared the stage with some of the best musicians in his region including: Jim Anderson, Art Gore, Craig Bailey, Mike Wade, Marc Fields, Erwin Stuckey, Steve Schmidt, and Dan Karlsberg to name a few. He has arranged music for the horn section of world-renowned funk band "Cameo".

In 2022, Myles earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music (UC- CCM) with a minor in Entrepreneurship. That same year, he, along with the CCM Jazz Orchestra, was invited to compete in the Jack Rudin Jazz Championship hosted by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in Manhattan, NY. He and a select group of his classmates were entrusted with representing their university in the small ensemble division of this competition forming the "CCM Hard Bop Combo". Because of his stellar performance, he was recognized by Wynton Marsalis with an honorable mention for "Outstanding Trumpet".

In 2019, Myles made his international debut serving as a delegate for the Sister City Cincinnati-Nancy Jazz Initiative. As part of this initiative, he played with some of the best musicians from both sides of the Atlantic headlining France’s Nancy Jazz Pulsations Festival. In addition to performing, he engaged in community outreach and education working with students from both the Music Academy International and the Conservatory Regional Du Grand Nancy.

Throughout his collegiate and post graduate career, Myles maintained a passion for equity within his alma mater and the Greater Cincinnati area serving as the Vice President of the UC-CCM Black Student Association (2020 - 2022) and being crowned "Mr. Kuamka 2021". His platform entitled "Melanin in Music" is an initiative that provides access to music education for young Black musicians within his community.
